IX: We can almost never be greater than those we hate.

IX: We can almost never be greater than those we hate.

Thursday, 18th June 2026.

The saying goes something like, "You'll never meet a hater who is doing better than you".

This is an interesting philosophy that I heard when listening to a podcast that hosted David Goggins. In Goggins' journey, he learned that those who had the time to expend their energy on hatred towards his success did not have the capacity to be greater than him.

In Goggins' advice, we take the perspective of a successful individual - but not all of us are successful yet. Whilst it's a valuable piece of advice, I challenged myself to view this from a mirrored perspective.

So, that's exactly what I did. If we take, "You'll never meet a hater who is doing better than you", and flip the coin, you get, "You'll never do better than someone you hate on". By taking the perspective of someone who wants to be successful - rather than someone who is already successful - the quote becomes easier to comprehend.

By hating on others' success, we limit ourselves. Our ceiling becomes their floor. But by celebrating the successes of others, we relieve ourselves of these limitations, and become free to achieve whatever we set ourselves to.

Losers focus on winners. Winners focus on winning.

Talk soon.
